END OF LIFE DOULA CARE

As an End of Life Doula, I will provide support to the person who is approaching end of life, and to the family.  It can be overwhelming to try to make tough decisions while meeting various needs that seem to become more challenging.  I can be of assistance with knowledge, skills, and compassion, so that everyone can be more present through the dying process. I am prepared to bring the following support:

  • Provide assistance in organizing and preparing personal affairs using "Life in Motion" guide book

Legacy Project Planning:

  • Provide assistance in creating ideas to remember the stories and life that was lived: memory books; albums; recipe books; story projects; pillows or stuffed animals made from their loved one’s clothes; interviews; videos; artwork; and many other ways to keep the memory of their beloved close.

Funeral Planning:

  • Provide information regarding options - traditional vs. green; burial vs. cremation; funeral home vs. in the home visitation/funeral; funeral ceremony.

Vigil Planning:

  • Provide assistance in creating a plan for vigil visits: setting the atmosphere; who and when scheduling (family vs. friends); vigil book; remembrances - giving and receiving tokens; story telling; music; available legacy elements; preparations before entering the room; spiritual elements.

  • Reiki; meditation; relaxation and stress reduction; meaningful conversation; assessing the environment for calmness and safety; support for their wishes; strategies for a life review; spiritual support.

Family Support:

  • Meaningful conversation; assistance with available options for stages of end of life; support with family dynamics; creative ideas for dealing with end of life and bereavement.

During Active Dying:

  • Provide information about what is happening and to offer support by being present with the family at times and ensuring vigil plans are honored. I will also be present by the bedside at times helping to provide whatever the family may need.

Care of the Beloved Immediately After Death:

  • Provide ideas and options before the body of the beloved is removed: prayers; family traditions; music; washing the body; poetry; storytelling; placing flowers, spiritual items, or a blanket on the body.

Bereavement:
